Collaboration Policy

This collaboration policy covers all course material and assignments unless otherwise stated. All submitted coursework must adhere to the Michigan Honor Code and Michigan Honor License (the 3-Clause BSD License plus two academic integrity clauses).

Course material, concepts, and documentation may be discussed with anyone. Discussion during quizzes, exams, or individualized in-person assessments is not allowed with anyone other than a member of the course staff.

Assignments may be discussed with other students at the conceptual level. Discussions may make use of a whiteboard or paper. Any sharing of code, use of AI tools, or use of materials not of the student's own creation must be disclosed and properly cited.

Should a student fail to abide by this collaboration policy, that student will receive no credit for this course. The University of Michigan reserves the right to pursue any means necessary to ensure compliance. This includes, but is not limited to, prosecution through The College of Engineering Honor Council, which can result in suspension or expulsion from the University of Michigan. Please refer to the Engineering Honor Council for additional information.

Mandatory: Michigan Honor Code Acknowledgement

Attestation required in your repository

To acknowledge compliance with this collaboration policy, append your name to the file LICENSE in the main directory of your deliverable with the following text. This appending action is your attestation of your compliance with the Michigan Honor License and the deliverable-oriented Michigan Honor Code statement:

"I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this coursework deliverable, nor have I concealed any violations of the Honor Code."

This attestation is considered updated with the current date and time of each deliverable submission.

After an examination, students must write the Honor Pledge in their test books and sign their names under it:

"I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this examination, nor have I concealed any violations of the Honor Code."

The Course Instructors are not required to grade tests in which the signed Honor Pledge does not appear. The Honor Code remains enforced whether or not the student signs the Pledge. If you are unsure about what constitutes an Honor Code violation, please contact the course staff with questions.

Generative AI Policy

The use of generative AI tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Bard, etc.) is permitted for all course activities, except for exams, quizzes, and Code Repair (Mutation) Challenges.

The use of generative AI in a deceptive or malicious fashion is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:

• Impersonating yourself or others in course contexts, for example in emails, virtual office hours, or online course forums.
• Using generative AI to facilitate harassment of others.
